Our Story

Quokka exists because of one woman's determination: Ingeborg Meurkens. Diagnosed with MS in 1979, Ingeborg became dependent on a wheelchair in 2010 — and quickly encountered a problem no one seemed to be solving. Where do you put your bag? On her lap, it was uncomfortable. At the back of her wheelchair, it wasn't safe. So, being a self-proclaimed bag enthusiast, she decided to design the solution herself: the first truly practical bag for wheelchair users.

When she needed help turning her ideas into reality, she reached out to Remco Kemper, an old school friend of her brother's. Remco joined her in developing the concept — and today, he leads Quokka and heads product development.

Ingeborg passed away in 2022. Her spirit is still at the heart of everything we do. She got to see her idea grow into something that genuinely improves daily life for people who depend on a mobility aid — and that made her proud. We carry that same purpose forward in every product we make.

Today, Quokka is the leading specialist in the development and production of mobility accessories. Thanks to our unique adapter system, our products fit not only wheelchairs, but also walkers, scooters and special bicycles like tricycles — making them accessible to anyone who relies on a mobility device to get around. Our own collection of bags, cases and cupholders is sold in more than 20 countries across Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America.

It all started with a simple idea: everyone deserves a safe, accessible place to carry their valuables — a wallet, phone, keys — no matter what they use to get around. That idea gave us our name: the quokka, a small marsupial known for the pouch it carries close to its body. A Quokka product works the same way, keeping what matters to you safe and within reach. When our customers later asked for a cupholder that actually works — instead of the flimsy options flooding the market — we developed our own, built to the same standard.

Beyond our Quokka collection, we develop and produce customized accessories for leading wheelchair brands like Progeo, Sunrise Medical, Ergoflix and Hoss. For these partners, we've extended our adapter technology even further, combining magnetic attachment — so accessories snap securely into place — with a physical locking mechanism, protecting against loss and theft.

Whether we're working with a private customer looking for the right bag for their wheelchair, or the CEO of an international mobility brand developing a custom solution, the same thing drives us: genuine care for the people we work with, and the craftsmanship to back it up.
